Report on the introductory presentation of the Africa Expo!

On 14th October, from 14 to 16pm, an introductory presentation of the 4th Africa Expo and Fair was organised in the Ceramic Hall of Hungexpo Budapest Fair Centre, Budapest. 40 people attended the event representing the governmental, private and non-profit sectors. The participants were dominated by companies interested in Africa, which indicates the growing interest of Hungarian actors towards the African markets. Diplomatic representations and international representatives of Angola, the Republic of South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, and Sudan participated the introductory presentation. The delegate of the Embassy of Kenya arrived from Vienna. The governmental sector was represented by colleagues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the highlighted professional partner of the Africa Expo.

The introduction was presented by Africa specialist Ildikó Hermina Szilasi, founder and chief organiser of the Africa Expo and Fair. Ms. Szilasi pointed out that more exhibitors, African partners and delegations are expected to participate as Exhibitors in 2015 and she identified the goals and outcome of the expo as a better, more influential and increasingly business-focused Expo.

 

Several professional partners demonstrate the recognition of the high quality work of the organizer of the event, the Culturafrica Foundation. Professional partners of the event are: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Hungary; the Hungarian National Committee of UNESCO; African-Hungarian Union; Africa Research Center of Pécs University; Africa Studies Journal. In addition, there are ongoing negotiations with further commercial organizations and universities regarding further cooperation related to the expo. In the framework of the Hungarian and English presentations, the representative of NEFEFO and the newly organized African Department of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade also spoke up. Lilla Virág Haraszti gave an introduction on the Africa Department, who share similar views with the objectives of the Africa Expo in the light of strengthening African-Hungarian economic and business relations. Tamara Sepsi, the representative of NEFEFO briefly talked about the 11th European Development Fund which is available and its application system. Access to this fund will give Hungarian actors the opportunity to win projects and gain financing possibilities in Africa.

 

Ildikó Hermina Szilasi shared new information and inaugurated new services which will be provided for the Exhibitors. In 2015, Exhibitors will be able to continue to exhibit in Pavilion ‘A’ which receives 50.000 visitors on average, under similar advantageous circumstances as previously. In the frame of the Expo, exhibitors will also get the opportunity to promote their institutions, expand their business relationship, get to know Hungarian partners, as well as on the spot selling of their products and services. In addition to all this, they can benefit from further valuable promotions as part of the large-scale media campaign supported by Port.hu. According to preliminary consultations, singer and artist Sena Dagadu and actor Kembe Sorel have been identified as the celebrity ‘faces’ of the Africa Expo and Fair in 2015.

 

   

 

The first two days of the four-day event will be focusing on professional relationship-building. After the opening ceremony and the introduction of exhibitors, there will be an international conference realized on 26 February 2015. Highlighted topics in 2015 will be the European Development Fund and the new market opportunities in Africa. Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Parliamentary Secretary László Szabó accepted the position to be the Main Patron of the Expo. The organizers have expressed that the organizing capacity of the 2015 Expo has expanded significantly. Due to increased capacity, partner searching and consultation services will be provided for the exhibitors. The media campaign of the Expo will be internationalized targeting African electronic business related print media. As a result of the enlarged capacity, Africa Expo will contact 100 African Fairs and Exhibitions, 54 investment promotion agencies and will approach each and every African Embassies in nearby regions from Berlin to Moscow. The website of Africa Expo has already been expanded with information in French and a Portuguese menu will follow soon.
