Capacity enlargement at Africa Expo: successful internship program
6 newly graduated intern applied for the internship program of the 4th Africa Expo in one week. The aim of the young university students mostly taking their second degree at the International Relations major of Corvinus University Budapest is to gain professional experience and relationships during the organization of the Expo. It is believed that this experience can contribute to their employment on the labour market, as mostly all of them would like to work in Africa, or in an Africa-related field in long-term.
„For years we consistently emphasize at Africa forums and workshops that professional experience and then jobs should be created for these highly qualified fresh graduates, who would like to work in Africa or in Africa-related fields. As we can learn from the high number of interested applicants, there are many students with an interest towards Africa, but because there are no Africa-related job opportunities in Hungary they change their career plans early.” – said Ms. Ildikó Hermina Szilasi, founder and Chief organizer of the Africa Expo and Fair. The high number of applicants and the voluntary intention showed that the interest is increased.
„During the organization the interns can get an insight into the African-Hungarian relations, get acquainted with international communication and event management, while they expand their professional skills and relationships. We hope that at the end of the internship, some might find their future employers among the exhibitors or the professional attendants, or they get ideas for their thesis during the organisation of the Expo.” – added Ildikó Szilasi.
The significantly enlarged capacity provides an opportunity to expand the database of the exhibitors, partners and sponsors of the Africa Expo, as well as to keep closer contact with exhibitors and partners. As a result of the intership programme, Africa Expo will contact 100 African Fairs and Exhibitions, 54 investment promotion agencies, realize international media campaign in Africa and will approach each and every African Embassies in nearby regions from Berlin to Moscow.
